So What Are You Riding For?

I’ve said it before, this is an amazing trip, full of personal challenges and growth, natural beauty, fun, and good people.  And those good people are usually full of question.  In fact, here is a daily conversation:

So where are you two riding to? [Coast to coast!]
Really?? [uh-huh]
And where did you start? [Florence, Oregon]
Geez, you’re crazy. What’s your final destination? [Yorktown, Virginia]
Wow, and how long is it going to take? [About 3 months]
So do you ride in the rain? [Yuuup]
And how many miles do you do in a day? [About 60 nowadays]
So what are you riding for? [Umm, ahhhh...that’s a stumper.]

So Gaby and I got to talking about causes we’re passionate about, and came up with a great answer.  Here it is.

So what are you riding for?
[We’re riding for KIVA, have you heard of them?]

Ummm...no, who are they?
[Kiva.org lets you lend money to entrepreneurs in the developing world, empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty.  For example, you can go online and lend $25 directly to a carpenter in Ayacucho, Peru so that they can improve their business and their living situation.]

Wow, that’s pretty neat.
[Yup, you should sign up at http://www.kiva.org - it’s pretty easy.]

So that’s our new answer.  And I wanted to tell you guys about it too.  I hope that if you have a few minutes (since you’re online already), you will go to http://kiva.org to sign up and make your first loan.  You will help to change somebody’s life, and then, you get your money back!  It’s great, tell them icesar [[at]] gmail [[dot]] com sent you, from his bicycle.
